From the mid 80’s Steve was a session keyboard player - both live and studio work helped prepare and educate him in the art of production. He has since produced over 200 albums, including CDs by the Northern Chamber Orchestra, Mike Westbrook, Keith Tippett, John McCabe, Philip Grange and Camden Reeves.

He acts as producer to major new music projects, coordinating these in their entirety - booking musicians, venues and engineers - but almost always involved himself in a hands-on style. As graphic designer, engineer, producer and 'fixer' Steve has a reputation for coordinating some of the most successful projects in contemporary music. 'Cannonball', by the Alan Barnes Band, won Jazz CD of the year in 2000; 'Bar Utopia', by Mike Westbrook, was Jazz CD of the week in the Guardian; Steve's recent productions with Philip Grange at the University of Manchester have won critical acclaim from the Guardian and Gramophone.
